Why not travel?

Keyeris Marshall

Growing up I never knew how big the world was all I knew was the street I grew up on and the area around that. I had no idea what the world had to offer. I’ve always been obsessed with seeing new things and experiencing different people and their cultures. Traveling also has health benefits that I will talk about.

How many times have you been stressed and just thought about taking a vacation? We’ll research suggests that you should. “A study found that women who vacation at least twice a year show a significantly lower risk of suffering a heart attack than those who only travel every six years or so. The same is true for men. Men who do not take an annual vacation show a 20 percent higher risk of death and 30 percent greater risk of heart disease”. Although I wouldn’t recommend picking up and leaving all your responsibilities behind to go on vacation, it wouldn’t be the worst thing ever.

Being more understanding and tolerant about a culture different than ours is part of being smarter, this Is one of the many benefits you get from traveling. There is a quote by Saint Augustine, which goes “The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page”. Think about how many times you see something on the new or you read something on the internet, and you don’t question it. People may think that this will make you smarter but the new we watch is heavily influenced by political bias and people never get a chance to think freely on their own.

Even more than “just” languages, traveling helps you learn about yourself. You might run into challenging situations where you need to be resourceful and think differently. I’m sure that you will develop a new set of skills that you didn’t suspect you had within you If you’ve grown up with all the comforts of the modern world and had the opportunity to go to school or even college, sometimes we forget how lucky we are to have things like free education. Traveling to other countries, particularly those in the developing world, can be a wakeup call and put your own life in perspective. Things that you may take for granted, like having clean water, internet and the opportunity to get a well-paying job these opportunities are not available to everyone, purely because of where they were born. You’ll probably come away with a new appreciation for everything you have, and you’ll notice that there is someone in a worse situation than you.

There is so much more to life than getting up every day and going to work there are new places to go and new people to meet. Every day is a chance to expand your horizons and we only have a limited number of days so use them to the best of your ability and make something out of nothing.
