Imagining the blogosphere really got me thinking about how important the internet is to our daily life and how it has affected the way we see news and that it gives us a place where we can talk about our personal lives and it feel like someone cares and you can find someone to relate to. I think it’s a great thing that mainstream media isn’t the only way we can receive or news. Mainstream media obviously has cooperate interest and will tell you what they want you to hear. We have the resources to look things up ourselves and we now have control of what we want to be informed about.Every good thing always has a bad thing and so does blogging and the internet. I think we can all agree that with the rise of amateur reporters you risk having people with radical beliefs that can now be put on a platform where people can now listen to them. People like Alex Jones and other people have created a cult following of people who believe anything they say no matter how outrageous the claim; like the world being ran by lizard people. Things like this can be very harmful because when you get group of people who believe anything someone says then you have people living in a separate reality than the rest of us. Blogging can empower an entire group of people and it gives people a chance to have a conversation that may not have been had otherwise. It can bring groups of people together and give them a sense of community and a feeling of relatability. Blogs have created a platform where anyone can share there thoughts and beliefs and people will listen whatever message you feel is important people will listen to.I view blogging like a double edged sword, it’s a great way to connect with people and find a sense of community but it’s when the wrong people you use things like this to talk about radical beliefs that can cause harm is when it’s turns bad. I truly believe words have power and we get a chance everyday to use that power for bad or for good and whatever path you choose might just change the minds of many people.
